This therapy has been implemented at JSA in order to allow parents, adoptive parents, foster carers and/or special guardianship carers to essentially become a play therapist for their own children/any child in their care.
The sessions of the programme we deliver are an hour in length, and then we encourage our parents/carers to hold a special 30 minute playtime session with their child each week at home. The programme as a whole takes place over a structured 10-week course. It is a fantastic programme of therapy which allows our parents and carers to build positive attachments with their children, and indeed allows for the children in turn to develop positive attachments with others.
PCRT is something JSA are really hoping to extend out to local authorities and private care providers to enhance their offer to those they work with.
